A number of speed bumps have already been encountered by most of the people driving, crossing or walking along the streets. To manage parking lots and traffic, a variety of speed bumps equipped with its own unique function are being utilized.

Drivers are supposed to slow down considerably when they come across with street speed bumps which is also known as traffic calming features for them to be able to pass safely. With a space on either side for draining purposes, the raised road surface is a bump placed across the rest of the roadways that contains a height ranging from three to four inches. Usually, bumps have a depth of less than one foot. Bumps are placed on roads in order to remind drivers to watch their speed, also making it extremely hard for them to drive fast on areas that contains traffic calming features.

High impact materials such as concrete and asphalt are used in making commercial speed bumps on roads and parking lots which make it seem larger. Painting the entire surface with stripes embedded in reflective tapes or using very apparent colors such as yellow or orange are useful for speed bumps. Check out for more info.

This type of traffic calming feature is used to minimize the rate of motor vehicular travels in areas where traffic is high such as household, racing locations and other traffic issues. Commonly, bumps are smaller in size and are made of recycled rubber or plastic from low impact materials. Whether it is a day or a night, bumps can be very visible by painting it with bright colors like yellow and orange or embedding reflective tapes.

Speed bumps and humps are used for the same purpose, but speed humps are designed in order to be driven at rates that are more than twenty miles per hour devoid of having to stop or slow down. Since they are typically ten to fourteen feet in depth, this type of traffic calming feature is wider than the usual bump.

Speed humps are made to motivate strongly encourage drivers to maintain the proper speed limit and make a gradual stop compared to the smaller traffic calming devices that are  meant to make drives suddenly stop. Primarily, speed humps are used in residential areas, however, they can also be used for different traffic and parking situations.

Even at slow speeds, vehicles are hard to manage if it will pass a poorly designed raised road feature with low clearance. The traffic calming devices that are not visibly marked can pose an extreme hazard to motorcycles, cyclist and even pedestrians. In some instances, speed bumps are created so that a break in the bump in the middle of the street enables two wheel vehicles to pass through without [having the need to go through a bump.
